5 things I didn't know before Mastermind

KonstantinKonstantin

As you may know, I'm working on dictate-button.io, voice input for web forms. After MicroConf Europe 2025, I joined the MicroConf Mastermind program.

It's been just a month since the start, and I already feel like a different person. Here are a few things I learned from my group:

  1. My landing page sucked. Demo only. No docs. No advantages. Now it gradually guides a potential customer from the demo to signup. But hey, it's a never-ending process, so drop your ideas in the comments.

  2. I thought good code could sell itself. But with all the new vibe-code tools, code is becoming a commodity. No one cares what's under the hood as long as the service solves a real problem. Better marketing and customer development are what matter today, so now I spend over 70% of my time on non-code activities.

  3. I thought the Lean Canvas was outdated. Turns out, it's as useful as ever, maybe even more. While working on mine, I refined my vision and discovered a bunch of ideas to validate.

  4. I didn't know my users. What is ICP? Internet Computer Protocol? After one month in the Mastermind, I finally know at least two user groups I want to serve, and I've started targeting them through my copy and marketing.

  5. I was afraid to charge for my service. It felt like I first needed to incorporate and only then ask for money. Thanks to my group, I realized I need to charge as soon as possible, at least to validate the idea. Currently preparing to integrate with Polar for subscriptions.

If you're not part of a mastermind group, consider joining one. As you can see, it works.

And if you ever need a voice input button for your site, I'm here for you.
